In the late 1700's is when the first political parties broke out when the founding fathers were deciding how to govern our nation. People had different ideas of how our government should run. Should we interpret the Constitution strictly or loosely? How should the states be represented in congress or how to voice the citizens options. The Federalists were mostly made of the class of rich business men who wanted a weak state government and a stronger national government and supported the Constitution. The Anti Federalist were made of farmers and landowners who wanted weak federal government and a strong state government, did not support the Constitution completely, and wanted a Bill of Rights. After lots of debate from the both parties, disagreeing on how the government should be run.
Jefferson's Anti-Federalist view: The anti-federals thought that having a strong central government would trap them into a somewhat similar monarchy that they just fought to get away from. They wanted a Bill of Rights because they believed that the Bill of Rights would protect the citizens rights by protecting the implied powers.
Hamilton's Federalist View: The Federals thought that having a strong central government would keep the country working better, they agreed that it if the federal government was in place then there would be less state disputes and be united under one nation that acted like a nation. The thoughts of the Bill of Rights were looked at as unneeded or unnecessary, they thought that it would take away the rights of the citizens instead of protecting them instead.
In the images below they explained a different way of viewing how they politicians fought.
